WellWashersUSA Frequently Asked Questions

How effective is the product?
With our AutoWellWasher correctly installed the need for manual cleaning of pump station well walls and components is virtually eliminated.

How widespread is use of the WellWashersUSA?
Although new to the North America, AutoWellWashers are now used by over 100 Wastewater Authorities in Australia. They are in use in every State and Northern Territory and New Zealand. Our Washer has become an accepted product in sewer maintenance and is specified by many authorities as a standard inclusion in new and refurbished wells.

Does it use detergents or chemicals?
No. All it uses is water or treated effluent.

How much water do they use?
The Washer will use approximately 4-6 gallons/min depending on water pressure/flow rate at the site. Should you wish to minimize water consumption, then you can employ our Digital Timing Controller to control the Washer function. Trials have shown that a “fatty” well can be kept clean with a program of a 1 minute wash every 6 hours using 30-50 gallons of water per day.

The AutoWellWasher seems expensive. Can’t it be made more cheaply?
Bargain priced products do not last in the sewage environment. The AutoWellWasher has been designed and built specifically for pump station wells. Metal components are all high-grade stainless steel and the washer is machined from a monomer nylon material, which is less susceptible to corrosion than stainless steel. Quality does not come cheap.

What about on-going maintenance?
The WellWasherWasher requires no maintenance other than to ensure that the integrity of its water supply is maintained and that it is freed of rags etc. A programmed, regular inspection by responsible personnel is recommended.

How long will it last?
We have had units from WellWashersUSA running in the field for over 10 years now. Much has been learned and subsequent improvements made. Conservatively, you can expect to get 4-5 years use before you may need to have the bearing and seals replaced. There are many still working in the field which have operated longer than this. The nylon and stainless components will last more than 10 years.

Is it legal to connect the AutoWellWasher to city water?
A Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Prevention Device should be installed, please check with local governments regarding locals rules and regulations. Most agencies require a model that provides for an Air-Gap.

What’s involved in installation?
Installation in the well is quite simple and takes less than an hour. Above ground you will need to install an RP valve and solenoid.

Should we use the wall mount or guide rail bracket?
The advantage of the guide rail bracket is that installation, adjustment and maintenance can be performed without entering the well (confined space entry). The wall mount bracket is more secure; it stays where you bolt it. Also, initial nozzle adjustment is a little easier.

Does the WellWashersUSA unit come in different sizes?
No, one size works successfully in wells up to 14 feet diameter providing water pressure and flow is adequate. Remember the AutoWellWasher does not have to be positioned in the center of the well.

Does the AutoWellWasher have any effect on odor or sulfide corrosion?
Sure does. Suppression of odor is noticed immediately the AutoWellWasher runs, and because the corrosive fat residues are prevented from building up, corrosion of infrastructure is dramatically reduced.

What’s inside the AutoWellWasher head?
There is a water pump style mechanical seal, above a stainless steel ball bearing. Protecting the bearing from below is a double lip seal.
